New Zealand businesses are set for a major cash-flow boost as eInvoicing adoption accelerates, according to a government release published on 8 July 2026. Small Business and Manufacturing Minister Cameron Brewer said 113,000 businesses are now registered to receive eInvoices, up from 52,000 earlier this year.

The government says wider uptake could deliver up to $800 million a year in productivity gains once eInvoicing is fully adopted. The system removes printing, emailing and manual data entry, helping firms get paid faster while reducing paperwork, invoice fraud and scams. NZIER research cited in the announcement estimates businesses can save at least 16 minutes and about $11 on every invoice switched to eInvoicing.

For New Zealand’s software and business services sector, the message is clear: practical automation is moving from optional efficiency to mainstream operating practice. The government also confirmed that from 1 January 2027, large businesses will be required to send eInvoices when billing government agencies.
